Free IP training for Tech Transfer Officers and Business Advisors - IP4Inno - January to April 2008

2007, December 4 by kaposlogisztika

New enterprises and SMEs rely upon business advisors and technology transfer professionals like you to advise them on how to protect and commercialise their new ideas. Their routes to market depend upon a solid understanding of strategic uses for patents, trade marks and copyright. Would you know how to advise them?

Nineteen intellectual property (IP) teaching modules have been developed by a consortium of twenty European institutions to give business advisors and technology transfer professionals the knowledge they need to teach and advise others on a range of IP matters, including enforcement, commercialisation and strategic use of patent information. This consortium has combined its skills and expertise under the European Commission’s project “IP4Inno”.

We are inviting you and your colleagues to attend some of the IP4Inno training events being held early next year. Places are FREE but limited (just 20 per event). In addition to the four modules taught at each 2-day training event, you will receive access to all twelve modules and supporting teaching materials from the dedicated IP4Inno website, so that you can train others in a wide range of IP topics. This “train the trainers” programme has been specifically designed with you in mind. It is not a clumsy attempt to turn you into IP lawyers, but rather will prepare you to help new businesses and SMEs face the challenges and opportunities in the innovation process.

For more information about the training sessions being organised by the European Patent Office, and on the full range of the twelve 3-hour IP teaching modules, please visit:

Free Good Practice Guide on Urban Freight Traffic
A new good practice guide with useful solutions for urban freight traffic will be available in early August, published in 17 European languages. BESTUFS project experts have produced the good practice guide as part of the EU-funded BESTUFS project (BEST Urban Freight Solutions) which is coordinated by Karlsruhe-based PTV AG. The guide spans 84 pages and is intended to give guidance to urban planners and freight transport or logistics companies.
For more information about document availability, please visit http://www.bestufs.net. The document can also be downloaded from this website.

3D-based Navigation
The new PTV RoadRunner software package provides software modules for navigation and telematics with 3D views. The Munich-based software firm PIXEL is currently embedding 3D landmarks. Buildings and prominent points will be displayed in 3D on the map of the mobile navigation device. Another aim is to enable users to navigate through 3D environments on their screens. The 3D mode considerably enhances navigation, and on top of that, it makes for an engaging 3D exploration experience.
PIXEL is the first software firm which integrates tools on the basis of the PTV RoadRunner. They are extremely pleased about the excellent quality of the new software. “The PTV RoadRunner provided ideal basic conditions. High-quality software, clearly defined interfaces and detailed documentation allow quick and easy integration,” says Moritz Gaupp, head of 3D Navigation Development at PIXEL Germany. The basic version of PTV RoadRunner was presented for the first time at CeBIT 2007 in Hanover/Germany and the incremental map update option hit the headlines this year.
Navigation with 3D visualisation is another impressive and useful functionality.

VARTA Offers Excellent Online Hotel and Restaurant Guide
Since the first print edition of the VARTA Guide was produced in 1957, it has been named the best-selling independent hotel and restaurant guide in Germany. Varta relaunched its web portal at www.varta-guide.de in 2006. It now offers simpler and more user-friendly services. PTV provided the geo-spatial features such as POI search, map display and route planning. Hotels and restaurants can be searched by various categories, such as by distance or rates. The mapping and routing options are based on PTV’s Mobility Platform. Easy data editing allows Varta and even hotels and restaurants to update their own web contents (e.g. opening hours, etc.).

Transport Logistic in Munich Was a Great Success
Transport Logistic, which took place in Munich in June 2007, reached record highs with 47,000 visitors from 113 countries attending the 11th International Trade Show for Logistics, Telematics and Traffic, an increase of 18% compared to last year. The number of exhibitors from abroad also grew by 19%, which this year totalled 1,580 companies from 57 countries.
The exhibition was also a success for PTV. Since the merger with MAP&GUIDE GmbH the software specialist has been able to provide an even broader range of transport planning solutions. Customers can now choose from trip planning and scheduling software for vehicle fleets of any size. The map&guide planner, for instance, is the right tool for full truck load (FTL) and less than truck load (LTL) planning with a fleet of 15 or more vehicles.

Well-known Food Producer Chooses PTV Sales&Service
August Storck KG, a well-known Germany-based food producer, has chosen PTV Sales&Service, the geomanagement software for efficient sales force planning. The system was tested over a period of several months and the results clearly showed that Storck could reduce its costs by restructuring its sales territories.
PTV Sales&Service is the ideal tool for planning sales locations and territories. It supports sales teams by scheduling sales visits over a specified period of time and calculating exact routes for each day.

PTV and SAP Extend Partnership
SAP users can now benefit from PTV’s geographic and logistic services. Karlsruhe-based PTV is currently the only organisation which integrates these services into SAP’s standard software. Both organisations have jointly developed interfaces designed to seamlessly combine transport logistics solutions, such as PTV Intertour, with SAP systems.
PTV’s geographic and logistic components allow exact geocoding, even if addresses are incomplete. Additionally, they provide exact route data by means of a detailed route list.

New Releases of VISUM 10.0 and VISSIM 5.0

VISSIM 5.0
PTV is proud to announce the upcoming release of VISSIM 5.0.
A common data exchange format enables a simplified and vastly improved data integration workflow in both VISSIM 5.0 and VISUM 10.0. “Until now, it has been rather complicated to re-export a changed VISUM network to VISSIM. All manual changes in the VISSIM network were lost and had to be redone. With the new VISUM / VISSIM interface, all edits are maintained,” says Dr. Peter Vortisch, Director of VISSIM Development.
To learn more about the new VISSIM 5.0 functions visit http://www.english.ptv.de/cgi-bin/traffic/traf_vissim_5.pl

VISUM 10.0
VISUM 10.0, the latest version of our leading solution, will be available in early September. This software product belongs to the PTV Vision family and we have been working for over a year to fine-tune the program to perfection with a particular emphasis on user-friendliness. The VISUM beta test phase is now nearing completion and has been extremely successful. All test licences will expire by the end of September, at the latest.

European Academy Facilitates Transition Towards Sustainable Development
Cities play a decisive role in the transition towards more sustainable development. Over two-thirds of the European population live in cities. This high concentration of people in urban areas also presents a major source of economic, social and environmental problems.
Although Berlin’s problems are well-known, it is not the only city that faces these issues. In fact, the majority of Central European metropolises, such as Warsaw, Prague, Budapest and Vienna, among other European cities, must address similar problems. Rapid urbanisation forces cities to co-operate with and learn from each other.
The Academy (EA.UE) was set up in 1992 by the the City of Berlin and the European Parliament to facilitate both transition towards sustainable development and cooperation between the capital cities of Central Europe as well as between other European cities. The Academy is an organisation for further education and training oriented toward Europe. The aim is to promote exchange of experience and ideas among local government decision makers in all spheres of sustainable urban development by offering conferences, seminars and workshops as well as publications.
For more information about the European Academy and the annual programme go to http://www.eaue.de/

Greetings!

Value Chain Associates is a founding member of the

Value Chain Group. Beginning in 2004, we worked with

a handful of dedicated individuals who came from various

industry sectors and who represented all aspects of the

enterprise to develop the original version of the Value

Reference Model (formerly VCOR). The VCG provides the

best methodologies for an integrated approach to an end

to end solution through use of reference models and

business frameworks.

Value Chain Associates has worked with process owners,

systems owners and market owners within the

Electronics, Automotive, CPG and Aerospace & Defense

verticals. Our framework application, ValueScape,

provides Business Process Managers, Engineering and IT
